      In a drag race, traction off the line is everything. If you want to improve your elapsed time you need to improve your 60 foot or short time. The rule of thumb is that every tenth the 60 foot is reduce results in a two tenth reduction in the 1/4 mile elapsed time.


      What you really want on the strip is a tire with a lot of sidewall that will flex and absorb some of the driveline shock and with a very sticky compound that heats easily. These are soft tires that do not last long.

      The Toyo R888R is not a dedicated drag radial but it is an R-Compound roadcourse tire approved for street use. That means if you are struggling with traction but do not want to go to a straight drag radial the R888R is a nice compromise between street and drag duty.

      Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires come standard on the 720S and while this is a good street tire McLaren obviously takes into account wet performance and how the tire does in the rain. This is not as much of a concern for 720S owners who likely have more than one car but also want maximum performance from their car.

      So how does the R888R do?


      A 1.570 60 foot on a prepped surface is great for a tire that can do double duty on the street and not sacrifice handling performance but rather will increase it. Especially considering they were not able to get much heat into the tires with a burnout meaning there is room to improve.

      On the stock rubber the car did a 10.40 @ 144.70 on a 1.740 60 foot.

        This has to be the most efficient car of all time when it comes to use of power. What would it do at Atco? Maybe 9.5x?? He said he may try a line lock or tire warmers to get a few more tenths out of it. Why can this car do with a rwd configuration that others can't do with awd.

        I get that its light but its competition from say 200k-600k is also light, also mid/rear engine, also dual clutch, the answer has to be in its brains and how it manages wheel slip compared to everyone else. A TT power plant, and dct is nothing new at this point.

        Definitely a combo of everything mentioned above. The car is very slippery at high speed. God like aero.

        It's odd, I don't find them that loud at all on my M3.

        Brook referenced it as soon as he installed them, its so loud he only uses them for the track. I gotta imagine his are atleast 335's, what are yours?
